One last THING....

Blog about your 27 Things experience.

What did you learn? I learned there is a lot out there that I didn't know about! Kidding! I do like some of the "things" - Zoho is very cool - I was already using a RSS feeder and I had used flikr a little, but not a whole lot - there are a lot of possibilities with that one since my husband is getting more into photography. I had used youtube a lot and I already had a personal blog. I learned there is a something out there for everyone no matter what you like to do.

What did you like? - The one thing I discovered that I wasn't already doing and I like is Zoho. the rest was interesting, but I can do without them. Oh and twitter! I really like twitter! I was able to twitter while at the Jazz Fest Memorial Day weekend and my parents could look at my blog and see what we were doing. I quit doing it for a while, but have started back up a couple of days ago. I was a little weird seeing who I would get a followers based on what I tweeted!

What was missing? - Facebook and the time to play with all the new gadgets of Internet 2.0. I found myself thinking - "Would I really use this?" as I was doing most of the things - and the most annoying thing? Having to sign up for everything!

Thingfo - Invite only - and I guess I'm not invited!

So when I go to sign up for Thingfo it is invite only right now. That is OK - I don't think I'm popular enough to use it anyway. I don't do some of those things reguarly to take full advantage of it.

The new SPL website...

I have likes and dislikes on the new site. I do have more likes now that I have explored it more. I still don't like Encore though. I like the job links and I had sent them to my older son when he was job hunting. I also love the laguage learning tools and plan to take advantage of them soon! I think we have a lot of resources that people don't know about and unless you have the time and patience to sit a look through the website you will never know what is there.

Podcasting

I will be perfectly honest - with all the music and audiobooks I have on my Ipod, I don't really use Podcasting - there was a couple that I subscribed to a while back, but they just didn't keep my interest enough to have them taking up valuable space on my Ipod and my RSS feeder is already full of lots of things I don't have time to read or listen to as it is.

I "heart" Youtube!

This is my current fave - my older son and his fiance are currently planning their wedding and it is cool to check out how other people have done things differently!

Post

This post is being brought to you by ZOHO writer!  I can see the possibilities with this application - I can write something and have it accessible to my husband who could proofread it for me.  We could have a list of items on the web that we could both access if we needed to such as books or dvd's owned.  I would even be able to pull it up on my handheld device without storing on the memory of my handheld!

Week 7 of 27things!

So it hit me that I use wiki's everyday and I have made my "castle" in the sandbox but didn't post about doing it!

My favorite wiki to use at work is the circulation manual - now if only the processing manual would be wiki that would be cool!!

Library 2.0

Library 2.0 – it's many things to many people. What does it mean to you? - that is my assignment - blog about library 2.0....

As a library assistant I'm excited about the changes in the Internet and library 2.0, but putting them into play in my everyday job is a different subject - I have a hard enough time getting some people to fill out an online library card application - I have seen people get frustrated when filling out form for EDD and job applications - not all people are willing to embrace all that the Internet has to offer. I have not had the opportunity to teach anyone here in the library anything about library 2.0 - It just doesn't come up very often.

I also feel like there are so many website out there that do the same thing - I'm a member of goodreads which is similar to library thing so I have no use for library thing - all my lists are already in one place.

License plate watching!

So last night on my way home I was taking a look at cars going by and seeing if the three letter combination on their license plates were also SPL branch codes - yes I know - I do have a life, I had placed my car stereo faceplate in the back of the car and then wasn't going to stop and get it, I just wanted to get home. So for those of you still reading my post and curious as to what I found...NNT, ARC and MCC!!

I don't get out much....

These are states I have visited - I included Tenneesee - but I was there when I was four and I don't remember much about it except the thunderstorms - I also included Florida but I was only passing through there on my way to a cruise ship.....

A twittering I will go!

So I signed up for twitter and after about 8 hours of doing it and thinking "Why am I doing this??" I ended up totally hooked! I also discovered that I can text to not only twitter but to facebook as well. Signing up for texting has also had an unexpected benefit! My older son who is in college texts all the time but I hardly ever speak to him on the phone - I have now heard from him more in the last week through texting than I have in the past month on the phone! So I went from signing up for 200 texts, to upgrading that in three days so I have 1500 a month now and I update my facebook page more often and I won't be bored while sitting on one place ever again!!

Rollyo?

Maybe I'm missing the point on this one.... I don't get Rollyo - I consider myself pretty internet savvy - but I'm not getting it...

Library Thing...

I was not impressed with library thing for some reason - to each her own I guess - I use Goodreads and I am happy with that - I find no reason to have two sites that basically do the same thing for me.

A running wordle!

Wordle: Running Wordle

Week 3 and 4 of 27 things!

I signed up for flikr a while back but have not done much with it - I'm more impressed with Google Picassa (Thanks Ann!!) - not to say I will never use flikr - I do have friends that post their pictures on it so I will check out their photos and it is pretty cool to check out photos that have been taken of places that I frequent and see their takes on the place - there are photos taken of bridges and such from various angles that I would have never thought of looking that way at an object.

One of my favorite websites is a spinoff from geeksugar - fitsugar! My day hasn't started until I have checked out what is going on there!

Speaking of Fitsugar - that goes into the next topic of RSS - can I just say "I love RSS!!" I allows to read a lot of sites and blogs in a short amount of time and have them all in one place! I use Google of course and their homepage and reader is one of the first things I look at in the morning - I check out my horoscope, I have countdown timers on it for important dates, top stores from local news sources and of course my ever growing list of sites and blog that I have to read! I have the unshelved cartoon added to it and that is my library fix for the day!

Job Rotation!

I'm at the end of my first week of a job rotation. I have learned a lot here at CMS and I have had some great teachers! I have one more week left and I can't wait to see what I'm going to learn next. I hope Karla is having as much fun at FAI as I am having here - I had some big shoes to fill! I did sign up for flikr a week ago, but I have not had much time here to check it out (It took me while to sign up because apparently I had a yahoo id - but didn't remember I had a yahoo id so I needed them to send me both my user name and my password and then of course they make you reset your password and so on and so on...) - I hope to play around with it next week along with whatever else I'm supposed to do for week four.

Lifelong Learning...

After viewing the lifelong learning slideshow I have some steps I do better than others. I know one step I really need to work on is Habit 3 - Viewing problems as challenges - I don't do this very well at all. (understatement...) I don't like problems, they are a distraction and an annoyance. To me they are not a challenge to overcome, they just need to go away. I know I can change my thinking and by being a lifelong learner I can learn to look at problems another way and taking that step will help me grow.

27 Things!

Here is my first blog post on my new blog to keep track of my 27 things for SPL.

I'm excited to explore and learn and I hope to refine some of my present skills.
